Special Effects

Being able to have access to special effects that you can’t create on your own is really important, especially starting out as an indie filmmaker. I knew early on, when I wrote the pilot script, that I would need to have a way to pull off the gunfire and explosions that were part of the script.

BigFilm packs offered the product that I knew would be able to fulfill that. These film packs come with multiple gun fires, firing smoke, bomb explosions, fire, debris, sound effects, and more. However, it was several hundred dollars.  A costly yet wise investment. If you are a filmmaker interested in using these special effects, check out their site. The bundles are the best, and they change the bundle offers all the time. https://bigfilms.shop/

This is why donations to the show are critical. I am so thankful for the people who donated to help supply the means to be able to purchase $300 worth of film packs that are used in the show Word and Deed. Without these film packs, I do not think I would have been able to pull off the Hollywood level special effects that are needed. Christian films need to be just as good if not better than what Hollywood is putting out to be able to attract viewers into watching faith-based films.

This is also the safest way to film guns in the show. We use prop guns that are non-firing or air-compressed. Then I lay the filmpack overtop of the footage in post. It takes time to get the right direction, firing size, and sound effect for the right gun. By adding these things in post, it allows it to appear as if it happened in real time. It takes a little bit of time and practice to understand how to use the filmpacks, as it’s not like you just drag and drop, you have to modify them. Color temperature and light need to be adjusted to match the scene that you’re in, along with understanding the layering of components in film software.

Here are some screenshots of them in Word and Deed. A screenshot is not as cool as seeing it in motion, so you will have to watch the pilot for the full effect or check out the teaser of Word and Deed, as these are used in that as well.
